Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 May 2026

This policy explains what personal data Backgammon Data Limited collects, why we collect it, and what your rights are. We've tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, please write to hello@backgammondata.com and we'll explain.

Who we are

Backgammon Data Limited ("we", "us", "our") is a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17122538. Our registered office is at St Andrew's House, Spen Lane, York, YO1 7BS, United Kingdom. We are the data controller responsible for your personal data when you interact with this website or our services.

What data we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. In practice, the data we hold falls into two groups:

This website does not run analytics, does not track visitors, and does not set any non-essential cookies. See the Cookies notice for detail.

Why we hold it (lawful basis)

Under UK GDPR, we need a lawful basis to process your data. Ours are:

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the business — for example, our email host, our accountant, and our website hosting provider. Each is bound by contract and by data protection law. We will share data with authorities only if compelled to by law.

A note on transparency: our founder Máté Fehér serves on the board of BMAB (the international governing body for backgammon as a mind-sport). Client analysis data is private and is never shared with BMAB. Match results uploaded to the BMAB public registry are separate — those are tournament results that already belong in the public record.

How long we keep it

Enquiry emails are kept for as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted. Client records are kept for six years after the end of our work together, to satisfy UK tax requirements.

Where it's held

Our data is held on servers in the UK and the European Union. Where any service provider transfers data outside the UK, the transfer is covered by the UK's adequacy decisions or by standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@backgammondata.com. We will reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of the page and, where appropriate, notify clients directly.
